Covington, June 26 (1943) – Mrs. Mary A. Hughes, 60 years old, wife of Jack Hughes died Friday at the Johnson-Suzuki clinic in Covington. She had been ill for some time with a complication of diseases. Born Aug 24, 1882 in Warren County, Mrs. Hughes was the daughter of Albert and Sarah Rose Layton. Her church affiliation was with the Gospel Tabernacle in Covington. Surviving are the husband, a daughter Anna Marie at home; a stepson, Herschel, one brother, Albert Layton of Covington; three step grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Monday afternoon at Crumley Mortuary in Covington with Rev. Thomas Paino of Indianapolis in charge. Burial was at Upper Mound Cemetery. The body lay in state at the mortuary from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday. - kbz
